Here is one of the most important CDs in the Edison Denisov's discography. It contains three vocal chamber works which marked his real birth as a composer having his own original voice. Though Denisov created a lot of works before "The Sun of Incas" (some of them are recorded on CDs) he considers this chamber cantata as his opus 1. "Italian Songs" were written the same year and together with "The Sun of Incas" they represent two different 'kinds of expression' which are typical of Denisov: the first one is more bright and effective, while the second one is more personal and strict. The last vocal cycle presented on this CD is "Wails" considered by Alfred Schnittke to be the main Denisov's work of the 60s. Its instrumentation reminds of the second Improvisation sur Mallarme by Pierre Boulez which was one of the favorite Denisov's pieces of music. The two were friends. In the 1965 Boulez included "The Sun of Incas" in his Domaine musical where it was conducted by Bruno Maderna. Later Denisov dedicated this work to Boulez.

There are two other recordings of "The Sun of Incas" on Avaxhome. But this CD gives us a unique opportunity to join the first litsteners of this work because it provides the world premiere recording.
