This CD took the longest ever to create! Oh my goodness, I could've birthed three babies from conception to release of this CD! Being busy balancing so many new things on both the record label side and an expanded touring schedule, I just couldn't get to the studio! And maybe, to a certain degree, I over-thought the CD and its material. The CD's songlist started in late 2005, but it wasn't until late 2006 and 2007 that I actually finished the process of getting the songs arranged, rehearsed, and recorded. This also included recording the vocals twice. Winds up, the microphone and pre-amp settings we used the first time for vocal overdubs just wasn't best suited for my voice. To date it was the most involved I had gotten with producing a CD, including that it involved four studios, three pianists and drummers, two bassists and guitarists, two engineers and a horn player. I also came close to partnering with a local Miami label to assist with the marketing and distribution, but in the end it just made sense to release it through my label, Banister Records which handled The Nearness of You. Looking back, I remember my own internal battle of trying to capture one cohesive statement spanning three years, but when I listen to the CD, it is ME. And ME being ME is cohesive enough!! :O) This CD, brings back some swinging times in my musical career. I can remember the energy of the stages I sang on in those years and how certain arrangements came to be. I remember the rehearsals in Howie Schneider's apartment, Mike Orta's house and the South Florida Rehearsal Studios. I remember the photo shoot and the idea of having this hot pink backdrop; as well as shopping for that white dress and the -"A-ha" moment Melanie (my office manager at the time) found it in Coral Gables' Merrick Park. I also remember the all-important sequencing of the album's songs and selecting the cover shot with help from my then consultant Don. It was like building a house, and it's collaborative effort was meaningful to me...
