     Giraut De Bornelh

Born: 1140
Died: 1200
Genre: Classical
Instruments: Vocals

Considered a master of the troubadors by his contemporaries, Giraut may have been a participant in the third crusade. He wrote at least seventy-nine poems some of which contain "debate" like formats with another troubador. Some of his poems were cited by Dante and at least two of the poems indicate participation in the crusade because of references "for" Richard the Lionheart and Count Ademan V of Limonges. With the "tensons" he was a troubador who departed from the standard format of through-composition. At least four of his poems with melodies survive.
