Nuria Rial soprano
After initial training in Catalonia, Nuria Rial continued her studies with Professor Kurt Widmer at the Musikhochschule in Basel, where she obtained her solo performer's diploma. She then went on to advanced study with such well-known musicians as Leonard Stein, Christophe Coin, Sergio Azzolini and Oscar Gighlia.
The stylistic breadth of her repertoire has enabled her to appear as a soloist with such groups as II Giardino Armonico, Concerto Vocale, the Ricercar Consort, Les Musiciens du Louvre, Capriccio Stravagante, the Basel Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, La Petite Bande, Zurich Chamber Orchestra, Concerto Koln, Hungarian Symphony Orchestra, El Concierto Espanol, Orquesta Barroca de Sevilla, La Real Camara, Real Filharmonia de Galida, Al Ayre Espanol and Orphenica Lyra. Conductors with whom she has worked include Rene Jacobs, Giovanni Antonini, Antoni Ros-Marba, Attiglio Cremonesi, Thomas Hengelbrock, Pierre Cao, Emilio Moreno, Jose Miguel Moreno, Skip Sempe, Salvador Mas and Howard Griffiths.
Nuria Rial appears in many festivals and other major musical venues in Europe, notably in Brussels, Prague, Berlin, Barcelona, Milan, Madrid, Bruges, Paris, Basel, and Zurich. Further afield, she has been heard at festivals in Latin America (Bolivia, Mexico, Cuba) and in Israel. In the operatic repertoire, she has already made debuts at the Theater Innsbruck, La Monnaie in Brussels, the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin, the Theatre des Champs-Elysees in Paris and the Theater Basel.
She has recorded for the labels Glossa, Alpha, Harmonia Mundi France and Mirare, receiving enthusiastic reviews in the specialist press (Alte Musik, Goldberg, Gramophone, Klassik Heute). She has also made recordings for a number of radio stations, including RNE (Spain), Catalunya Musica, Bayerischer Rundfunk, DRS (Switzerland), ORF1 (Austria), and RAI (Italy).
In September 2003 Nuria Rial received from the European Foundation for Culture the 'Helvetia Patria Jeunesse Stiftung' prize.
